At Saint Joseph School, students make Blessing Bags to donate

For this Year of Saint Joseph, students at his namesake elementary school in Somers Point are imitating his role as a caregiver to the Savior, in making Blessing Bags for the homeless and needy in Atlantic City.

In the initiative begun by its parish of the same name, Saint Joseph Regional School students have produced almost 600 gallon bags, filled with healthy snacks and personal hygiene products.

By Monday, the parish hopes to collect 800 bags to be delivered to the Benedict House in Atlantic City, staffed by the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal.

Each morning, the school has recited the prayer of “Good Saint Joseph.” As well, on March 19, the feast of Saint Joseph, the school’s teachers and staff were set to honor its three Sisters of Saint Joseph — Sister Judy, Sister Celeste, and Sister Barbara — with a seafood dinner from the local Crab Trap Restaurant.
