WOODBURY – Two days before the Philadelphia Eagles kicked off their first home game of the season, the students of Holy Angels Catholic School traded their uniforms for jerseys as they sang the Eagles’ fight song on live radio.

“Something like this brings the school together,” said Patti Paulsen, principal, adding that it allowed the community to “spread out, have fun [and] make a memory.”

On the morning of Sept. 17, the Eagles’ Pep Band, mascot “Swoop” and cheerleaders visited the school campus, handing out flags, jerseys and a lot of cheer. Spurred on by the Pep Band’s Bobby Mansure, the energetic students gave a full-hearted rendition of the Eagles’ fight song, “Fly, Eagles, Fly,” for Sports Radio 94WIP, participated in Eagles trivia, high-fived Swoop and learned new dance moves from cheerleaders.

“The kids had a blast. It’s been a [day] that we all needed,” first-grade teacher Catherine Rieger said. The event proved that the school “can still have fun” with COVID-19 protocols in place, she said.
