Athletes of the Month- February

The Catholic Star Herald highlights the Diocese’s student athletes who stood out during the month of February.               

Jaden Arline

Paul VI High School, Haddonfield

Jaden Arline

Jaden Arline has been the senior leader that the Paul VI boys basketball team has depended on during a season of transition. Arline, a guard, has averaged 14 points a game to help the Eagles post 16 wins during the regular season. Arline heated up in February, finishing in double figures for the final seven games of the regular season, hitting 20 3-pointers during that span. Arline has posted more than 700 career points during his time at Paul VI.

Aaryn Battle

Aaryn Battle

Aaryn Battle checks all the statistical boxes for the Camden Catholic girls basketball team. Entering the playoffs, Battle leads the team in assists (111) and steals (70) while averaging 13.4 points and four rebounds per game. The junior guard hit the 20-point mark three times this year, including a season-high 23-point effort against Bishop Eustace on Feb. 22. The Irish won nine of their last 10 games heading into the postseason, reaching 20 wins for the first time since 2017.

Trevor Nolan

Trevor Nolan

Trevor Nolan’s push in February will make him one of the toughest competitors at the Individual State Championship Meet next week. Nolan swam a time of 47.94 in the 100 freestyle and went 21.70 in the 50 freestyle to represent Saint Augustine’s only double winner in the Non-Public A semifinal meet against Seton Hall Prep. Nolan’s resume this season includes times of 2:07.26 in the 200 individual medley and 55.12 in the 100 backstroke, leading the Hermits to a 9-1 record and a Cape Atlantic League National Division title.

Carter Pack (1st place)

Carter Pack’s high school wrestling career is off to a great start. The Spartans’ freshman followed a 11-3 regular season with a District 31 championship at 106 pounds on Feb. 19 by defeating top-seed Gage Summers of Delsea, 3-0, in the final round. Earning the No. 2 seed, Pack pulled off another upset a week later at Region 8 by defeating top-seed Jason Meola of Kingsway, 7-3, to become Holy Spirit’s lone regional champion this season. Pack is now 16-3 heading into the State Championship tournament in Atlantic City.

Billy Stuski

Since taking over the starting goaltending position, there has been no looking back for Billy Stuski. The Gloucester Catholic sophomore goalie has posted an 8-3 record, including a 29-save shutout win over St. Peter’s Prep in the first round of the State Non-Public Tournament. Stuski, a South Philadelphia native, has turned aside 285 of 309 shots he has faced for a sparkling .922 save percentage for the Rams.

Isabela Valle

Our Lady of Mercy Academy, Newfield

Isabela Valle

Only a sophomore, Isabela Valle has made some big waves as a standout swimmer at Our Lady of Mercy Academy. Valle emerged as the Villagers’ top distance swimmer, posting a sub-two minute time of 1:57.70 in the 200 yard freestyle while registering a time of 4:35.03 in the 500 yard freestyle. Valle was 15-1 in individual races during the dual meet season, which included a 4-0 showing in a pair of playoff meets. OLMA went 6-4 this season and reached the Non-Public A State quarterfinals.
