Camden Catholic captures state wrestling crown

The Irish are champs again.

The Camden Catholic High School wrestling team won the Non-Public B state championship Feb. 12 by defeating Holmdel’s Saint John Vianney, 33-29, in thrilling fashion at Rutgers University.

Camden Catholic trailed 25-16 with five bouts remaining before Dom DiGiacomo secured a pin at 113 lbs. to bring the Irish within striking distance.

After Saint John Vianney stretched the lead to 29-22 with a major decision at 120 lbs., Camden Catholic took the final three weight classes to win its 18th state title in school history.

Jackson Young started the final rally with a 3-0 decision at 126 lbs. before Kage Jones tied the match with a major decision (14-4) at 132. With the state title on the line, senior Wayne Rold won a 9-1 major decision in the final match at 138 lbs. to give Camden Catholic its first state title since 2020.

Michael Craft, Austin Craft, Terry Terch and Tyler Byrd also picked up individual wins for the Irish, which finishes the year at 15-5.
